Ali Talks His Time As A Police Officer & How You Can Be The Difference In The World

Ali was a guest on the ABC 6 affiliate in Columbus as SmackDown makes it’s way to the Ohio capital tonight for tonight’s show. Ali talks about his time as a police officer in Chicago and how he looks at the upcoming Money In The Bank as an answer to what could have been if he competed in the Elimination Chamber earlier this year. Quotes are below, but you can also watch the full video interview here:

Ali on his first appearance on SmackDown Live competing against Daniel Bryan:

I was told before this was a one night deal, it’s just an opportunity for you and that’s it and you know, here we are, a few months later full-time member of the SmackDown Live roster

On how being a police officer helped him form his mentality:

I tell everybody I’ve seen a lot of bad things, but I’ve seen a lot of good things, too. And that job, it kind of formed my mentality now that you have to be the one. Like you yourself have to be the one to puts the best foot forward. It’s how you react to people, how you treat people that’ll dictate a lot of things in life. I’ve taken that experience as a police officer and it’s taken me to WWE and I have that same approach now. I want people to know that you can be the difference that you want in the world.

On how his persona has given him a chance to give back:

I don’t know if it’s an image thing, it’s more just like empathy. That’s one that job also taught me. Being a police officer I had a lot of interactions with people that I don’t normally meet. People with substance abuse issues, people with domestic violence issues and I’m seeing a whole new world and empathy…So now when I see a post from a girl that talks about, I think it’s called a vog mask that helps with her medical condition and she’s like, “You know my mask is ugly, I wish it was cool like yours.” The empathy in me goes, “Have mine!” So gladly I’m willing to send her my mask. I’m just trying to make this world like what I want it to be.
