Gail Kim Talks Coming Out Of Retirement, Being Critical Of WWE And Being Vocal On Social Media

Gail Kim was a recent guest on Chris Van Vliet’s YouTube show and the two touched upon many topics including the IMPACT Hall Of Famer making her anticipated return to the ring to face Tessa Blanchard. Kim also talks about how she will continue to remain unabashed in her criticism towards WWE, particularly because she’s a voice for performers who can’t speak out. Quotes from the first half of the interview are below:

Gail Kim talks about coming out of retirement and (potentially) having two matches in her (dependent on Joey Ryan):

I always said “when I’m retired, I’m retired.” But I will say my retirement, I was fine with it and everything, but it just wasn’t the storyline, wasn’t built up a lot at that time and so for me, I was just always a perfectionist when it came to my career so I just wanted it to be perfect and I don’t know if it’s going to be perfect but I do know I have a great opponent and she is the future if not the present. You know, she is very talented so it kind of gave me that feeling. It is going to be one more match. Although I did promise Joey Ryan, cause he would ask me for him and I always said “Okay, if I come out of retirement for one more match for IMPACT I promise I will do that that one more match for you, but he never asked me. As long as he doesn’t ask me that will be my last.

Gail Kim talks being vocal in social media:

I think I know how to handle myself on social media, but sometimes when you’re in a position to be able to be vocal and speak out about things you truly believe in and other people cannot speak out, then you know, I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with that.

On being critical of the WWE and the stronghold the company has on mainstream wrestling:

Oh yeah and that’s absolutely fine because I think you know our business is such a monopoly right now and Vince is the main man, WWE is the main company and they have a lot of money. And even if you don’t work for the company, you hope to come back re-hired, or you hope for maybe Hall of Fame or you hope for whatever it is, it’s like they have that control over you and for me I experienced the company twice. I know it’s not a place that I would ever want to return. It was not a great time, both times in my life, not just my career, so if I’m in a position to be able to speak up, then I’m going to. And you know what? Wrestling fans are very passionate so majority are very supportive but then of course you are going to get the fans that don’t want to hear the bad things, you know? But at the same time, they have to remember that I’m speaking up for the people that they watch and love.

On IMPACT creative being better than WWE creative:

I wasn’t lying. I truly believe it and it’s not just cause I work for them. All I hear from the general fan base is how badly the creative is right now and they’re not really enjoying the show.

If you watch both shows and you have an opinion, then that’s your opinion, but if you’re not gonna watch one show and then you have an opinion, then to me, it’s like, “Okay you gotta give them both a chance.”
