Matt Taven On Proving ROH Wrong With Title Win; Says Jay Lethal Deserves A Rematch

New Ring Of Honor World Champion Matt Taven took part in a post-match media press conference after defeating Jay Lethal and Marty Scurll at G1 Supercard.

Taven was asked about who he might want to face now, but he said it didn’t matter, and this win was all about a childhood dream coming true. Taven said this was about proving Ring Of Honor and the Melvins wrong, and calling himself Champion was a beautiful thing to say.

“I complained about a conspiracy for a year. I said that this company wasn’t living up to wrestling traditions, so what I want to do first is give the champion his rematch. Jay Lethal deserves a rematch, but do you see any worry in Matt Taven’s eyes? Matt Taven has gone sixty minutes with Jay Lethal, he beat him right here in Madison Square Garden, he has no problem putting this title on the line against him one more time. There is no one, no one that is the real Ring Of Honor World Champion that’s not named Matt Taven. This title plate right here that says Jay Lethal—I can’t wait, I can’t tell you how it’s going to feel to unscrew this and throw it in the trash. This is the greatest moment of my life and I’m so glad a sold-out Madison Square Garden got to look like fools. Nothing makes me happier than making Melvins look like idiots.”

Taven was also asked about it felt having everything go in his favor tonight in spots it could’ve went wrong, and Taven said it’s hard to put into words, but it is hard to top this moment:

“I wish I could bottle it up and have it for the rest of my life because there is no better feeling than looking around at a sold out Madison Square Garden and seeing the frowns on their faces when they knew that no one is better than Matt Taven. It was the greatest feeling in the world. I don’t know if I could ever feel it again, but I’m going to celebrate tonight like it’s 1999 and there’s no tomorrow. I’m on cloud 9! I’ve been with more girls than you can count, and nothing was better than that moment right there.”

In regards to the other participant in the match, Taven said Marty Scurll didn’t even deserve a spot in the match at MSG, let alone a future title match against him:

“What? Marty barely made the height requirement to climb that ladder. Please—Marty didn’t deserve to be in the match in the first place. All of these little dorks that want to jump on the Villain Enterprises bandwagon because Marty joined the Bullet Club back in the day, because he didn’t have the balls to stand out on his own, that’s their fault. They are brainwashed, they are delusional, they are what I call Melvins—you might be one yourself with a question like that. Marty never deserved a shot at the title in the first place, and he never deserves to hold this title in the future because I have no plans of letting this out of my grip.”
