Ricochet On WWE Always Being His Goal, Changing His Warmup Routine To Prolong His Career

Ricochet was a recent guest on Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia and he opened up about his path to WWE. “The One And Only” said he wanted to explore every opportunity possible, but reaching WWE has always been his main goal:

“Everything I’ve done is just the way I’ve planned it. I wanted to do the indie thing, then I wanted to as much as I could in Japan. Lucha Underground seemed exciting, so I went and did that, and then WWE was always the ending point. I wanted to do everything I could before I arrived. I saw all my friends get called up and that was great for them, as [WWE] is really where you can make your lives.

It’s always been a dream of mine since I can remember. As I got older, I wanted to explore all avenues, but WWE was always my dream. Your goal is to get there, and then once you achieve that you get new goals. Debut on a PPV, compete in the main event, once you get here you have to make smaller goals and achieve those.”

Ricochet also talked about where he learned how to flip, saying it’s all self-taught, but he wishes he would’ve done more in gymnastics as a kid:

“That’s all self-taught. I spent time in my front yard or on a trampoline out back, repetition repetition trial and error. My parents tried to get me into gymnastics and I regret not doing it now. But I was just a little kid and I only thought that girls did gymnastics. There’s just so much that gymnastics can teach you.”

Ricochet has been wrestling for nearly 15 years, and said his in-ring routine (or lack of one) was catching up on him, but now he adopted DDPYoga and took advice from NXT’s coaches to extend his career:

“Over the past couple of months, my hips and my knees and my back were just killing me. I think it’s from the time spanning up before I signed up with NXT, I never really warmed up or stretched before matches or workouts. I think it’s now just youth catching up with me. Luckily, signing with NXT, Shawn Hayes had a really good warmup before every workout. He gave us warmups we could do before matches, and I’ve also started doing DDP Yoga. I’ve really felt that it’s helped my legs and my back.”
