Charlotte Flair On Respecting Ronda Rousey, Comments On Her Own Passion For Wrestling: ‘I’ll Always Be A Part Of It’

Charlotte Flair was a recent guest on State Of Combat with Brian Campbell, and talked about having a high level of respect for Ronda Rousey, one of her opponents at WrestleMania 35 this Sunday:

“I just look at Ronda and I go, had there not been a Ronda—I know the world has changed, is changing for women overall, but Ronda played a huge part in that. She’s a household name. She’s always been true to her message, so then when she signed with WWE, no one could say whether she was going to pick this up quickly or not. Just because you’re a great athlete doesn’t mean you’re going to be a great storyteller. She really legitimized the women’s division to an audience that might not be familiar with sports entertainment, and that’s really what she brought to the table.

I’m being serious, before Survivor Series, I pictured facing her at Mania and I wanted to test my skills against her. That’s how much I looked up to her, and I still do for what she has done for women’s sports around the world. I have that much respect for her, but don’t get me wrong, it’s my ring. [laughs]”

Charlotte was also asked if she could she see herself wrestling into her 50’s like her father did, and she said she will be involved with the wrestling business in one way or another:

“I want a family one day and kids, but seeing Brie and Maryse come back and Beth Phoenix, even Michelle McCool—seeing the women who have had families and come back and have those amazing moments, I go, ‘who knows when the end date is for me?’ I do know how much I love this business, and it’s my passion where even if I’m not on camera, I’ll be behind-the-scenes. Whether it’s producing or coaching at the Performance Center with future talent, I’ll always be part of it.”

Charlotte also joked about having fun on social media recently posting photos of her wearing Los Ingobernables gear, and playing up her relationship with Andrade:

“I’m blushing so much right now! Maybe…. MAYBE at the Hall Of Fame, everyone will get a picture. I don’t know. That’s all I’m giving.”
