PJ Black On ROH’s Focus, Talent Shakeups, How He’s Evolving With The Wrestling Business

PJ Black recently spoke with Brian Fritz for Sporting News; the former Justin Gabriel talked about how he decided to sign with Ring Of Honor, his evolution in the ring and more. Black said he chose ROH as a home for a number of reasons, but feels like this year is going to be a big one for the promotion:

“I think ROH is going back to their roots, focusing on the wrestling and the honor and the sport aspect of it but also throwing in some entertainment stuff in there. The production value is definitely going up this year. I feel like it’s an exciting time. That’s one of the reasons why I chose ROH over everything else. I believe this year is going to be one of ROH’s biggest years.”

Black talked about the opportunities he’s been presented with in Ring Of Honor with the recent talent moves in the past few months:

“They have Rush, they have Bandido and I think they’re two of the top guys right now. I know WWE was trying to sign them hard, as was AEW. I’m glad that ROH got them and I get to work with these kids. There’s a lot of veterans too like Jay Lethal, the longest reigning champion in ROH history. I’ve only had one match against him and it was one of my favorite matches ever. I cannot wait to do some more stuff with him.”

Black spoke about his tenure in wrestling, saying he felt like he was coasting along for some time, but now feels like he’s re-energized and focused:

“People think when you hear adrenaline junkie is all about rush, the rush, the thrill. I get most of my adrenaline spikes in the wrestling ring, actually. I’ve been doing it for so long that for a few years, I was an autopilot doing whatever. Now, I’m implementing new stuff, especially character stuff, and a lot more promo stuff and a bunch of new moves that I could never do back on WWE TV. I feel like you have to evolve with the business. Otherwise, you’re going to get left behind.”
