Will Ospreay Talks Reaction To Competing In MSG, Eddie Guerrero Being His Hero

NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay was recently featured in New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) latest Road To MSG video on YouTube. Ospreay talked about what it means to him to be competing inside Madison Square Garden and seeing his heroes like Eddie Guerrero competing inside the venue when he was younger.

His reaction to competing in MSG for the G1 Supercard:

It’s just one of those things again where, you just said that, and I don’t think it’s real. It’s always been the home of like, another company, and to be able to perform there you have to be a great singer/songwriter, an artist of some sort. I cant’ sing. So, the other option would have to be to going to the other company, which has never intrigued me. I’ve never really found that aspiration or wanted to go there. As a kid – I still don’t think it’s real. Even my mom and dad called me like, “Are you going to be in MSG?” I said, “I think I am!”

Eddie Guerrero being his hero and watching him compete in MSG:

It’s weird, you don’t understand, for me – when I used to watch wrestling – when wrestling was in Madison Square Garden, I remember matches like Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle. Guerrero was my hero, man. The way he would connect with me through my TV screen. I’ve never seen Eddie Guerrero live, but watching and just being astounded by the things he’d do. It was so cheeky, I was like “Ah, that’s who I want to be. I want to be like that.”

And the talent that he brought, and to know that he came from here, that he came from New Japan Pro Wrestling – to see him to go from there, to the small independents, to ECW, to WWE – and to let people down at that time, and then get back on top, to work his ass off to get back –
