UPDATE: Adam Cole won the match and will face off against Gargano at TakeOver New York.
Triple H appeared at tonight’s NXT television tapings with the NXT Championship. He told the crowd that he originally was coming out to announce Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa for the TakeOver event, but that isn’t happening anymore.
However, his current announcement was also exciting. Johnny Gargano will in fact compete for the vacated NXT title at TakeOver. He’ll face off against the winner of a five-way match tonight that features Ricochet, Adam Cole, Aleister Black, Velveteen Dream, and Matt Riddle.
Additionally, the NXT TakeOver bout will be two out of three falls in order to make sure there is a definitive winner.
