Elias On Pushing The Envelope With His Lyrics About Different Cities, Roman Reigns’ Impressive Return

Elias spoke with Wrestlezone’s Kevin Kellam on WKQX Radio while promoting Monday’s RAW TV taping at the AllState Arena in Chicago.

Is there ever a time you don’t want to perform for a certain crowd?

Yeah, there are times where I go out there and think they’re just not worth it tonight.  They are not worth my time or energy, they don’t deserve me, they are not worthy of me, things like that. Every so often I’m feeling like that, but I just love the sound of my own voice so much that I can’t help myself most of the time.

Some people commented on his lyrics about Philadelphia being a ‘city with children that have no future’; is there ever a time he thought he went too far or something he sang was too truthful?

No, that is never the case. In fact, normally I like to even push it further than that. Due to a lot of television restrictions and things like that, I often have to get pulled back. Once I make up my mind that ‘this’ is the line I am committed to it.

Has anyone helped him write a song?

Not once.

Who is someone he enjoys watching closely?

Given what he’s been through in the past—Roman Reigns. The guy beat cancer, I’ve got to see what he’s doing. I’ve got to see what he’s up to and what he’s doing next.

What was the emotion like when the locker room heard that positive news about Roman’s remission?

It was one of those things where the whole locker room felt a little bit better that night, you know? People could say, ‘Oh Elias, you don’t have a heart with some of the things you say’, but I can be truthful no matter what it is. For anyone to overcome cancer—which is just unreal—and to be the guy that he is and the spot that he was in, to come back and he’s ready to do it, it’s something impressive for sure.

The full interview can be heard on the latest episode of Wrestlezone Daily; Elias’ audio begins shortly before the six minute mark.
