Cody Rhodes, Nick Jackson On AEW Taking A More Sports Oriented Or Analytical Approach

Cody Rhodes and Nick Jackson of The Young Bucks spoke with media after the All Elite Wrestling Double Or Nothing ticket announcement party in Las Vegas, and the subject of a rankings system was brought up.

The duo said leaning towards a more sports-centric product is something they are looking into with AEW, and Cody also said they looked into deeper analytical approaches, something that would appease the ‘stat head’ fans:

Nick: We’re still considering things for that, but I’m not going to get a World Title shot. I’m a tag wrestler. [laughs] I didn’t go to college, Cody. We’re still thinking about how exactly we’re going to do that.

Cody: I said tonight that we’re going to try and keep it very sports-centric. Tony’s background is in sports, and pro-wrestling, to me, I still get goosebumps when I still hear somebody like a Ric Flair talk about ‘the sport of professional wrestling.’ We get that it’s entertainment—I understand the suspension of disbelief—guys are trying to beat [their opponents] in many different ways. It’s a very sports-centric presentation that we’re going for.

We’ve talked about something like a rankings system, we’ve talked about a deep analytical level with something as specific as how many times an individual has lost to ‘this’ patented maneuver—things that fans can really lock into. A lot of stats.

Nick: It’s still up in the air, but we’re still working on it.

In addition, they were also asked if we could see official weigh-ins, something that was part of the first Starrcast. Cody confirmed there will be another one at Starrcast II, then joked about how he felt taking part in that event last year:

Cody: I don’t know if he’s around here, he usually bails, but Conrad—we will do another one with Starrcast. Last year we did that weigh-in with me thinking I was in great shape, and then Nick Aldis [shows up, and I’m staring in awe] like ‘what the hell?’ I wanted to put my clothes on and run away… like Hangman should. [laughs] We will definitely do a weigh-in at Starrcast.
