Bully Ray Explains Why Rob Gronkowski Could Succeed As A WWE Star

New England Patriots’ star tight end Rob Gronkowski won his third Super Bowl this past weekend, and the NFL star has openly flirted with the idea of being a professional wrestler in the past. Considering his friendship with WWE’s own Mojo Rawley and his outspoken personality, it would certainly make some sense for “Gronk” after he hangs up his cleats. One person that agrees is WWE legend Bully Ray, who explained why Gronkowski could succeed as a wrestler on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio.

“If he likes wrestling then I say give it a shot,” said the multiple time WWE Tag Team  Champion. “He’s got the look. He’s got the energy. I think he’s passionate about it. He’s one of those athletes I think could be successful. He’s young enough that he could probably spend a year at the Performance Center, get a full year of training under his belt, and see what they could do. He’s not afraid of the physicality.”

Obviously, football is a contact sport and that means “Gronk” will have some wear and tear on his body. However, Bully Ray doesn’t see that as a huge factor. “They can put him in certain scenarios where he can work smart. Obviously, you need your ankles so you can run the ropes and do moves, but you can be careful and conscious about every step in the ring. You don’t have to be as reactionary. If you know what’s coming, you can plant and base the right way. If you know how to bump the right way then his back shouldn’t hurt him.”

As far as his success goes, it depends on his interest level and the booking. “If they prime the wrestling fans the right way then he will be accepted. If you follow his journey from day one and tell the fans that you’re gonna make a legit run of this and they follow his journey then I think they have a great chance of succeeding. If they just bring him in and force feed them then you can get backlash.”
