Asuka Retains SmackDown Women’s Championship, Submits Becky Lynch In Royal Rumble Opening Match

SmackDown Women’s Champion Asuka came away successful in her Royal Rumble title defense against former champion Becky Lynch. The match was a back and forth affair with Becky Lynch getting in her opponent’s face early on shouting, ‘Fight Me!’

Asuka obliged and the two women attacked each other in brutal and aggressive fashion. As Asuka attempted a suplex on the outside of the ring, both women actually ended up hitting the ring floor face first with a sickening thud. Although it was close, both Asuka and Lynch returned to the ring before the count of ten.

The two proceeded to exchange slap after slap after slap. Asuka hit several violent kicks to Lynch’s upper body, but Lynch did not back down eventually capitalizing with a Super Bexploder from the top rope that WWE announcers described as having ‘spine shattering impact’.

Eventually Lynch and Asuka took turns putting one another in their respective finishers. Asuka fought her way out of the Disarm Her, but when Lynch found herself in the Asuka Lock, she ultimately tapped out.
