WWE Reportedly Renewing A Push For Tag Team Wrestling, Possible New Team On SmackDown Live

The Revival might have asked WWE to release them from their contracts, but it appears the company will not grant it, and will instead try to push the team as true ‘top guys’ as the face of their tag team division.

According to the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer NewsletterThe Revival’s contracts run through April 2020, and they asked for their releases because they want to be doing their best work and WWE’s lack of a focus on tag team wrestling would hinder that. The team felt they wouldn’t get a chance to show what they could do based on how things were set up for the tag team division, but now WWE management has said they are going to push tag teams, even going as far as saying The Revival would be the new face of the division. It was noted that this belief in pushing tag teams would be a counter to All Elite Wrestling, since the new upstart promotion will be having tag teams as a major focus.

On a related note, it was also mentioned in this week’s Observer that long-term plans could see Rey Mysterio and Andrade teaming up on SmackDown. Rey and Andrade have been opponents as of late, but as of last week there were plans in place to have the two compete as a babyface duo. Furthermore, PWInsider.com also reported Sin Cara could be working with Mysterio in some capacity when he returns from injury, so it will be interesting to see how those three are paired up.

It was also noted in the Observer that it’s unknown how Zelina Vega would fit into those plans if Mysterio and Andrade were paired up.
