2018 Wrestlezone Year-End Awards – Breakthrough Performer

In 2018, Flip Gordon went from being one of the most promising prospects in all of wrestling to one of Ring of Honor’s most important stars. His rise coincided with a string of well-received indie performances and some hilarious segments in the lead up to All In, which showed that Gordon had plenty of personality outside of the ring. He also went to Japan to compete in the Best of the Super Juniors, where he earned three victories during the tournament.

He also played a key role at several of Ring of Honor’s major events throughout the year. His most memorable storyline involved a feud with Bully Ray that culminated in a bloody match at ROH’s final show of the year. It was a great bout filled with plenty of run-ins and aerial maneuvers

While he came up short in his attempts to gain a World Championship in 2018, he put on some great matches in the process. He wound up challenging Jay Lethal for the Ring of Honor World Championship at All In after winning a battle royal, and took on Nick Aldis for the NWA Championship at Honor for All. However, he’ll have a shot for ROH gold again in 2019 since he earned a shot after winning the Sea At Honor tournament on Chris Jericho’s cruise.

Congrats to Flip Gordon on winning our Breakthrough Performer award with 26.9% of the fan votes.
