New Hidden Gems Touch On AWA & Mid-South Holiday Events

WWE continues to expand on their 12 Days of Hidden Gems on the WWE Network. Today’s addition was an AWA Christmas event from 1982.

The AWA event will include a tag team match that sees WWE Hall of Famers Hulk Hogan and Tito Santana team up to face Ken Patera and Bobby Duncum. WWE Network News seems to suggest there may be an error in labeling. In an effort to clarify they’ve provided the lineups:

Tomorrow, WWE is planning to release a 65-minute version of the AWA Christmas Night 1982 event. However, that at least partially isn’t true, because the description (and video thumbnail) actually refer to the semi-main event of the 1981 card. This was a tag match pitting Hulk Hogan and Tito Santana against Ken Patera and Bobby Duncum. In 1982, Hulk faced Jesse Ventura on Christmas Night.

So, what are we getting? There are two possibilities. This is either a genuine chunk of the 1982 card with a misplaced 1981 Hogan bout or it’s the rest of the 1981 show mislabelled. If it’s the latter, we could see the following unreleased footage:

1981:

Buck Zumhofe vs Bobby Heenan

Hulk Hogan and Tito Santana vs Ken Patera and Bobby Duncum

AWA Championship: Billy Robinson vs Nick Bockwinkel (c)

If we’re getting part of the Christmas 1982 show, we’ll see some of the following with the misplaced Hogan Bout included:

1982:

Buck Zumhofe vs Tom Lentz

Baron Von Raschke vs Jacques Goulet

Ken Patera vs Steve Olsonoski

Rick Martel vs Bobby Heenan

AWA Tag Team Championships: Jerry Blackwell and Sheik Al-Kaissie vs Greg Gagne and Jim Brunzell (c)

WWE Network News also looked ahead to tomorrow’s addition with a synopsis of the Mid-South Wrestling match that will be added tomorrow morning:

MSW 12/25/1983 – Mid-South Christmas Night 1983 [Duration: 00:36:03]

Butch Reed and Jim ‘The Anvil’ Neidhart put the Mid-South Tag Titles on the line against Magnum T.A. and Mr. Wrestling II in a steel cage.

How do you feel about these additions and the 12 Days of Hidden Gems overall?
