FOX Reportedly Wants WWE Brand Split To Continue, Doesn’t Want To Cross-Promote Stars

While some fans have speculated that the upcoming FOX television deal with WWE will see the end of the brand split, that likely isn’t the case. The latest information comes from this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required). The new deal starts in October of next year, and FOX reportedly wants the WWE brand split to continue.

The reasoning for the WWE brand split is that FOX doesn’t want to promote wrestlers that would then also be wrestling for RAW on USA, which is owned by their rival NBC Universal. As such, they want split crews. The current plan is for both RAW and SmackDown to have separate production crews, and that house shows will start airing on the WWE Network. Meltzer says that “the SmackDown team will do the live Friday shows and whatever Saturday house shows that they will air.” Meanwhile, the RAW team is scheduled for “Sundays, whether PPVs or Sunday house shows, along with [Monday Night] RAW.”
