Following an invasion from Paul Heyman that led to a brawl between AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan, the two will face each other for the WWE Championship later tonight.
Styles opened up SmackDown Live to promote his match with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series when he noticed Heyman arguing with the timekeeper at ringside. At the champion’s request, he allowed for Heyman to speak on the microphone, for which the advocate for Lesnar praised his reign. He began to compare him to the likes of Ricky Steamboat, Shawn Michaels. and Ric Flair, but put him slightly below Daniel Bryan.

Heyman says we know we will never see Lesnar in the ring with Bryan. Styles isn’t a consolation prize but still. Heyman congratulated Styles for being the second best in-ring performer in the WWE.
Styles says he knows what Heyman is trying to do but it isn’t going to work. Styles says he tapped Bryan out and is going to do the same to Lesnar. This Sunday is going to be all about Styles.
This prompts Bryan to come to the ring and threaten Styles that if he disrespects him again, he would punch him in the face. A bewildered Styles said his name again before telling Daniel that Heyman is pitting them against one another, and Bryan proceeds to attack him. Shane McMahon would try to break up the fight but they continued to brawl going backstage. Frustrated at trying to keep their tempers in check, Shane made the match between Bryan and Styles a title match.
