The landscape of the heavyweight division in the UFC has changed once again, with Brett Okamoto of ESPN reporting that Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis for the title is set to go down at UFC 230 in New York City. The event, which will take place at Madison Square Garden, has been in desperate need of a main event – but this certainly wasn’t the fight that was on the mind of the fans.

This development could potentially impact Brock Lesnar, who was being lined up to be the next contender for Cormier’s Heavyweight Championship. The initial aim for DC vs Lesnar was January 2019 as it’d give the champion enough time to recover from a recent injury, but given that he now seems to be fighting Lewis on November 3rd, that could push the plans for the Brock fight back even further. Cormier has said in the past that he wants to retire before or on his 40th birthday next March, but considering that he wants to fight both Lesnar and Jon Jones before he hangs up his gloves, that could be pushed back.
