Hulk Hogan’s 5 Greatest Matches

#5.) Hulk Hogan vs ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage – WrestleMania V

The WrestleMania 5 main event was dubbed as The Mega Powers Explode. If you’re to go back and look at long-term storytelling done right in wrestling, this is it. With a year and a half build-up, the alliance between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage was a huge hit, with the two overcoming all obstacles put in their path.

After a controversial moment where Andre The Giant ended Hulk Hogan’s four-year-long WW(E)F title reign, the title was handed to the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase. Declared an illegal move, the title was subsequently vacated and a tournament was held at WrestleMania 4 to crown a new champion. It was Randy Savage who would win the tournament and become champion, defeating Ted DiBiase in the finals. It was thanks to help from Hulk Hogan, of course.

The subtle moments were what made this storyline magic. The clash of egos, Hogan stealing Savage’s spotlight, Savage’s paranoia about Hogan “lusting” for Miss Elizabeth and a general clash in personality. There’s no doubt that real life tension played into this as well.

When it was all said and done, they would clash in a much-anticipated match-up that saw Hulk Hogan put an end to Randy Savage’s year-long title reign.
