5 WWE Superstars Who Benefited From Someone Else’s Injury

#5.) Shawn Michaels – 2007

The originally planned main event of WrestleMania 23 was a rematch between Triple H and John Cena. However, Triple H suffered a tear on his right quad and had to undergo surgery. Till date, that remains the only WrestleMania that he’s missed in his career. Shawn Michaels was the man they looked to step in his place and as it turned out, not only was it the right call, but it was a better option to begin with.

It was Michaels’ first main event in three years and he challenged John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania 23. It turned out to be a fantastic main event, one truly deserving of the last spot at WrestleMania (though the same could be said for The Undertaker vs Batista on the same card).

Their rivalry would continue despite Michaels’ loss and HBK even picked up a non-title win over John Cena in one of the longest matches in RAW history.
