The ladder match between Christian and Alberto Del Rio was contested for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship. As you probably know, it was vacated due to Edge‘s retirement and The Rated-R Superstar went out as World Champion. The story of the match was Christian as the big babyface who had never really won a legitimate World title in WWE.
Moreover, he had experience over Alberto Del Rio in ladder matches. It turned out to be an excellent match, perhaps the best of Del Rio’s in his WWE run at that point. They went to war, with Edge even making a cameo appearance in the match. Christian fought the odds to get a feel-good title win – one that was ended prematurely.
