5 Greatest Intercontinental Champions Of All Time

#4.) Bret Hart

Bret Hart didn’t just elevate the Intercontinental Championship, he essentially took it into a new era. He was among the first of few to be an Intercontinental Champion when the era of wrestling had shifted to a more technical-based style. Both his Intercontinental title wins and reigns were nothing short of fascinating.

His first title win came at SummerSlam 1991 when he defeated Mr. Perfect in a technical classic to become Intercontinental Champion. Beating a legendary champion in his own right certainly helped Bret Hart’s stature. But it was his second win and title reign that would be more defining. He beat Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VIII in an incredible contest to win his second title, a reign that would last until Summerslam 1992. He dropped it to The British Bulldog at Wembley Stadium in front of over 80,000 people.

From start to finish, Bret Hart truly took the title to another level.
