It’s that time of the year again! We’re quickly approaching January 4th, which means that the entire wrestling world will have their eyes on Japan, specifically the Tokyo Dome, as NJPW host the annual Wrestle Kingdom event. Not just the event, but the stadium has such a rich history across various sports.
It’s the very venue that “Iron” Mike Tyson was knocked out by Buster Douglas in what was deemed as the biggest upset in sports history. Many wrestling, boxing and MMA icons have been to war in the iconic venue and many greats from the 1990s and early 2000s sold out the dome.
Though the attendance may not have reached the same levels as the past era, there’s been a significant improvement in terms of the quality of matches. Wrestle Kingdom, over the course of the last decade, has become NJPW’s equivalent of WrestleMania and has seen the rise of new stars and icons. We take a look at the five best matches from Wrestle Kingdom.
