Tag Teams in Action
Smackdown Live featured more emphasis on their tag team divison. The Hype Bros and The Ascension did battle, with Viktor starting fast with a flying elbow drop. Viktor stomps on Ryder’s chest. and in comes the horse. He tries a suplex, but Ryder counters with a neckbreaker. Hot tags to Mojo Rawley and Viktor. Mojo unloads some clotheslines, splashes and slams in the corner, trying to get the crowd behind him. Mojo clotheslines Konnor over the top rope, which allows him and Zack to hit Hype Ryder for the win.
Chad Gable and Tyler Breeze competed in single’s action on Smackdown Live. As Tyler kept in control, Chad Gable was finally able to hit an Alpha Plex. He would follow up with a cross body. Fandango tries to get involved, but Jason Jordan showcases his strength with a belly to belly. Chad Gable finishes him off with an O’Connor Roll into a German suplex with a bridge to pickup the victory.
As you can see, Smackdown Live has three tag teams of relevance. You can narrow that to two, as Heath Slater and Rhyno seem to out of the mix. I do wonder where the depth is. Zack and Mojo are good, not great. American Alpha is young and supremely talented, but are they ready for championship matches? The Ascension and Breezango are teams that have failed miserably where I am not sure they can ever recover.
After watching three segments on Smackdown that focused on tag teams, you can tell that they are not sure what to do. They do not want to push Gable and Jordan right now to the top, which might be the right reason.
Do they, however, introduce The Revival on Smackdown? Yes, the heels on Smackdown are champions, but this could give us more competitive bouts weekly and really push the other talent around to step up. I love tag team wrestling, but not when 75 percent of the teams are basically jokes.
Baron Corbin defeated Kalisto
I am beginning to really enjoy Baron Corbin’s work. Kalisto is a superb talent in the ring and WWE has done everything it can to milk this feud. Flip the switch and let Corbin go. Take off the chains and unleash a man that has potential to be really good. Classic heel. Who else can you say that about other than Baron Corbin? Another win tonight and another opportunity for WWE to invest in a youthful guy with a solid entrance, great selling and a look that is UNIQUE.
