AW – ONE STEP DOWN

I’m not offended easily. I can take a joke. AW’s Kobe Bryant joke didn’t bother me at all. Then again, I’m not a rape victim, nor am I close to one. Maybe I’d think differently if one of those were true.

Let’s assume there’s no conspiracy involved and no one in WWE management knew about AW’s joke beforehand and allowed him to do it, yet now they’re making him take the fall. Let’s assume he came up with it on his own. I’m willing to bet it was premeditated and not something he came up with on the fly.

I like AW; he’s good. I don’t think he’s THAT good. If he is that good, WWE probably should reconsider giving him a live mic on a live show.

If he came up with it in the back or before the match, it’s crazy to think he didn’t ask permission first. Common sense tells you that rape is a sensitive subject. Then, to combine that with a REAL incident from the past, involving a REAL celebrity, you’re just asking for negative mainstream attention.

Should people lighten up a bit and realize that wrestling is entertainment? Absolutely, but there’s no reason for AW to take that risk either.

If this was the WWE of 10-15 years ago, it’s different. I’m not saying it would have made it okay, but it would have been par for the course within the product back then and likely wouldn’t have stuck out so much. Now, in a PG world with Linda competing in politics and the company public, you have to be smarter than that. I’m surprised WWE’s letting him off the hook so easily.

Somewhere, Mark Magnus is really pissed off about this.
