WWE Money In The Bank Review: Live Fans And John Cena’s Thrilling Return Set The Stage For A Fun Summer

In an entirely different way, Bobby Lashley’s utter domination of Kofi Kingston also benefitted from the crowd. The WWE Champion squashed Kingston, a true fan-favorite, and crushed any hopes of KofiMania 2.0. The loud pop for Kingston when he came to the ring only made his eventual defeat even more disheartening for his passionate fans. In presenting Lashley as sn unstoppable force, WWE firmly established “The All Mighty” as a true powerhouse on the red brand ahead of a rumored clash with Goldberg at WWE SummerSlam. In theory, Lashley could (and should) defeat Goldberg and cement his status as the top guy on WWE RAW. But whenever Goldberg is involved, there’s always a chance WWE will lean on his name value, so only time will tell what the future holds.

The main event match will be overshadowed by Cena’s return, by Roman Reigns and Edge delivered an excellent bout. It was fairly slow at first, but it certainly picked up. From a ref bump to Seth Rollins’ costly interference, this contest offered fans a fun way to close the show. Edge came painfully close to victory at several points, and the fans were with him every step of the way. From dropping Reigns with a Spear to locking in the Crossface, “The Rated-R Superstar” certainly had the champion on the ropes, and it seemed like most fans wanted to see him win the title. This hope of watching Edge’s storybook victory unfold made Rollins’ involvement and Reigns’ triumph all the more heartbreaking.

Now, Edge is a clear-cut sympathetic babyface who got screwed out of his rightful moment, and Rollins remains the exemplary heel who everyone loves to hate. Along with setting up Reigns’ dream match with Cena, the ending of WWE Money in the Bank was a textbook case of wrestling done right, and it capped off an unforgettable show that kicked off what should be an amazing summer.
