In 2017, Brock Lesnar had just won the Universal Championship at WrestleMania and for over a month, he never appeared on TV or defended it. Since there was always going to have to be a contender, WWE decided to put five of RAW’s top stars together in one Extreme Rules match.
The winner would face Brock Lesnar at WWE’s one-off PPV Great Balls of Fire. It turned out to be a great match. One of the best in Extreme Rules history. At the end of it all, Samoa Joe of all people would be the one to pick up the win, earning the right to challenge for the Universal Championship.
