The Bosch universe is expanding with an official release date and a fresh look at the iconic detective’s early career in the Los Angeles Police Department. Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick will lead the cast.
MGM+ announced the premiere date and unveiled first-look images for Bosch: Start of Watch on October 29, 2026. The eight-episode series will debut on Sunday, January 10, 2027, with two episodes. New episodes will arrive weekly until the finale on February 21, 2027.
What to know about Bosch: Start of Watch and its cast
Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling book series, Bosch: Start of Watch takes place in 1992 Los Angeles. It follows 26-year-old Harry Bosch during his early days as a rookie police officer. The series will explore a city facing racial tension, gang violence, and problems within the Los Angeles Police Department.
Bosch’s early career takes a complicated turn when he becomes involved in a high-profile heist. The investigation draws him into a network of criminal corruption, forcing him to confront difficult questions about loyalty and justice. These events will help establish the principles that guide him throughout his career, including his belief that “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”
Monaghan, best known for Shameless and Gotham, portrays the younger version of the detective originally played by Titus Welliver. Meanwhile, Hardwick, known for Army of the Dead and Star Trek: Section 31, plays veteran officer Eli Bridges.
Ariana Guerra and JD Pardo also star as Rosa and Cory, respectively. The supporting cast includes Kathleen Wilhoite, William Fichtner, Rafi Gavron, Raphael Sbarge, Azita Ghanizada, Kenneth Miller, Seamus Dever, Ryan McPartlin, Marco Rodriguez, and Shelli Boone.
Fabel Entertainment is producing the prequel. Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony co-created the series, with Bernardo serving as showrunner. Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, Stephen Kay, and Jasmine Russ are among the executive producers.
Bosch: Start of Watch will stream on MGM+ across the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Latin America.
