Miranda Lambert Opens Up About Blake Shelton Divorce: ‘Really Not Fun’

Miranda Lambert is looking back at her difficult divorce from Blake Shelton. The country music star shared how the heartbreak became a source of creative inspiration for her.

Lambert recently appeared on the And The Writer Is… podcast, where she recalled the aftermath of her separation from Blake Shelton and how the experience ultimately led to her sixth studio album, The Weight of These Wings, in 2016.

“[In] 2015, I got divorced, and that sucks for anyone, especially in the public eye, especially on tour, especially in the middle of a very public career, two of us, you know what I mean?” the Grammy-winning singer shared. “It just was a really not fun time.”

The “The House That Built Me” singer was married to fellow country music star Shelton from 2011 to 2015. Following their divorce, she moved back to Nashville from Oklahoma and “dove headfirst into songwriting.”

How The Weight of These Wings helped Miranda Lambert channel heartbreak into music

During the interview, Lambert opened up about turning to songwriting to navigate the difficult period following her divorce.

“When I moved back in 2015, I gathered up all of my friends and relationships from, you know, all of the previous years and just used the misery,” Lambert shared. “I used the staying out too late at honky tonks. They used what I was living, and my friends went on that journey with me, friends being songwriters. And I think I wrote 75 songs in like a year.”

The heartbreak eventually became a catalyst for her highly acclaimed studio album The Weight of These Wings. “It was kind of magical because I really started growing my songwriting then,” she shared.

Lambert is currently married to former New York City Police Department officer Brendan McLoughlin. Earlier this month, Lambert released her tenth solo studio album Crisco on October 2. The album features 11 original tracks, including the single “A Song to Sing,” a duet with Chris Stapleton.
