Adolescence Creator, A24 Cast Jude Law in Soccer TV Show That’s Very Different From Ted Lasso

Jude Law will feature in Adolescence creator’s upcoming soccer TV show based on an iconic legend. The sports show comes from A24 and Box To Box Films.

According to Deadline, Law will play Liverpool FC’s famous manager Bill Shankly in a new series from writer Jack Thorne. The latest update follows the 2024 announcement that the soccer club was in touch with A24 about a project.

Law’s upcoming series may seem identical to Apple TV’s hit Ted Lasso. They both feature a premise of an inspiring manager leading his team to success. However, Ted Lasso is a lighthearted comedy while the A24 project is expected to be a grounded take on Shankly’s legacy at Liverpool FC.

What else do we know about the new A24 show with Jude Law?

Jude Law’s soccer TV show will focus on how Bill Shankly helped Liverpool FC become a powerhouse. He joined the club in 1959 and was also responsible for the iconic anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

His efforts promoted the team from the Second Division. Under Shankly’s leadership, the club won three First Division Championships, two FA Cups, four Charity Shields, and the UEFA Cup. The A24 series will be set during the 1960s. It will depict Liverpool FC’s journey from a struggling team to a global fan favorite.

Club chairman Tom Werner is already confident of the upcoming project. He believes it has the potential to succeed like Netflix’s The Crown. “It’s a story about family and relationships through the lens of a football club,” Werner said.

“If we can articulate that in a mini-series that starts with Bill Shankly and continues through its journey, we can touch on things like the Beatles,” he added. Shankly’s granddaughter Karen Gill is also part of the show.

A24’s soccer TV show has yet to find a broadcaster or streaming platform.
