Troy Aikman’s ESPN Future Revealed as NFL Legend Responds to Joe Buck Feud Report

Troy Aikman has addressed reports of an argument with longtime broadcast partner Joe Buck. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback has also revealed that his future with ESPN remains uncertain beyond the 2026 NFL season.

The comments follow a Front Office Sports report alleging that Buck and Aikman argued before Monday Night Football’s Rams-Bills matchup. Buck reportedly signed a new six-year deal with ESPN, while Aikman has yet to receive a contract extension.

During a Thursday morning radio appearance in Dallas, Aikman addressed the reports, saying, “There’s probably a time and a place for all that.” He added that he would finish the season before considering his next move.

With Troy Aikman set for free agency, CBS & Amazon could enter the picture

Troy Aikman confirmed that his current ESPN contract expires at the end of the season. He said, “I’ll broadcast through this season, and I’ll be a free agent at the end of the year and kind of see what happens.” He also mentioned that he was looking forward to calling Super Bowl LXI in February 2027 and the possibility of finding his “next landing spot.”

Aikman and Buck joined ESPN in 2022 to call Monday Night Football after working together at Fox for two decades. Aikman previously said he expected his contract situation to be resolved before this season began, but no extension has been announced. CBS could pursue him if he becomes available next season. The network recently parted ways with Tony Romo, while J.J. Watt has been named as his replacement alongside Jim Nantz for the rest of the current season. Aikman could be an option for CBS’s future broadcast plans, although the network has not confirmed any interest in signing him.

Amazon Prime Video could also consider Aikman, having previously explored him as an option when assembling its 2022 NFL broadcast team. His experience calling major NFL games could make him a potential candidate if he leaves ESPN.

As of now, Troy Aikman’s next move remains uncertain as he prepares to enter free agency next year.
