Sophia Bush has revealed that she secretly married former soccer star Ashlyn Harris in 2025. The couple chose an intimate ceremony and waited before sharing their marriage publicly.
Bush revealed the news in her debut memoir, And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress, as Vogue reports. She and Harris married in upstate New York during the summer last year. Harris’s children, Sloane and Ocean, were also there for the family celebration.
Bush explained that privacy mattered after years of living under public attention. She told Vogue, “When you get to this stage in your life, you begin to unpack what’s yours and what’s always sort of been for everyone else.” She also noted that both women had spent much of their careers performing in front of large audiences.
The wedding focused on creating a relaxed experience for their family. The children picked flowers from the property, while Bush and Harris spent their wedding night roasting marshmallows together. Harris described the day as free from the pressure that can surround larger weddings.
The couple later traveled across the country to tell friends and family about their marriage personally. Bush said she eventually wanted to stop referring to Harris as her “partner” during public appearances. “You’re not my partner, you know? You’re my wife. And it feels so amazing to say that.”

Bush and Harris wanted the wedding to remain personal before making the news public. Instead of announcing the marriage immediately, they shared the news directly with people close to them first.
Harris also connected their eventual public visibility to LGBTQ+ representation. “This conversation is not about Sophia and I. We know the love we share. We understand how sacred and how pure our love is.” She added that visibility matters for young people who may still feel unable to openly express themselves.
Bush and Harris have also worked as LGBTQ+ advocates and serve on the Human Rights Campaign board. Bush previously publicly discussed their relationship in a 2024 Glamour cover story.
