‘F— You’: Mark Wahlberg Reveals Hilarious Chevy Chase Confrontation

Actor Mark Wahlberg recalls a worst-yet-hilarious confrontation with comedian Chevy Chase. In a recent episode of The Shop, the Transformers star recounted the time he first arrived in LA before fame and ran into Chase, whose interaction shaped Wahlberg’s work ethic.

During a conversation on an episode of The Shop, the 55-year-old said, “The first time we came out to LA, my brother had a rental car. So we’re driving in Beverly Hills with our then-manager. I see this guy, and I’m like, ‘Hey!’ I wave to him, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, what’s up!’ He goes, ‘F— You!’ getting into his BMW.”

“I was like, ‘Oh shit, did that just happen?'” continued Wahlberg. He described this interaction as a “terrible experience.” However, this exchange with the comedian during his early career, before he became famous, was a valuable lesson for the Ted star.

How a first meeting came full circle

Continuing the conversation with The Shop’s hosts and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Wahlberg recalled the entire situation as being “hurtful.” The actor added that he grew up watching Chase on Television. Moreover, the comedian was the first famous person he saw as a rookie.

That said, seven years later, things turned around for Wahlberg. The Three Kings star said, “We were shooting a movie called The Big Hit in Toronto, and Boogie Nights is premiering at the Toronto Film Festival. I got a knock on the door, and the lady said, ‘So-and-so saw the movie last night and wants to meet you.’ I said, ‘Send that motherf— in’.”

Wahlberg then shared that he recounted their first interaction to Chase. He added, “That actually made me want to make sure that anybody who was ever interested in anything that I did remotely, that I was gonna give them the time of day. Unless, God forbid, something was going on with me and my wife and my kids.”

Mark Wahlberg’s upcoming movie, also featuring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, By Any Means is slated to release in theaters on September 4, 2026.
