Will Poulter revealed how The Bear changed his outlook on food and cooking. The actor who played Chef Luca in the FX series shared his experience on The Big Picture podcast with host Sean Fennessey. Poulter revealed that he actively asked the creator, Christopher Storer, to let him join the show, saying, “I will peel a carrot in the background for two minutes. Please let me in.” Storer eventually allowed him to play Luca, which Poulter described as an “unbelievable role” that changed his life.
Poulter clarified that The Bear did not necessarily change his life in the context of his career. Instead, the show helped him understand why food and cooking were so meaningful to him and called cooking “the most complete human art form,” as it can involve multiple senses at the same time. While acting allows the English actor to connect with audiences through sight and sound, cooking can engage sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste.
Poulter also explained that food can create an emotional connection in the same way that films and television can. He said, “You can have all of those sensory experiences in, in one moment. Just as you can watch a film and TV show and be moved because it represents your experience, you know, food can do exactly the same thing. The Bear really helped me realize that.”

What else has Will Poulter starred in besides The Bear?
Will Poulter has appeared in many popular films and TV shows throughout his career. He first gained recognition as Eustace Scrubb in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The English actor received worldwide popularity for playing Kenny Rossmore in We’re the Millers and won the BAFTA Rising Star Award the following year.
He later played Gally in The Maze Runner franchise and appeared in The Revenant, Detroit, and Midsommar. He received two Primetime Emmy nominations for his work in Dopesick and The Bear. He joined the MCU as Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. His recent work includes Black Mirror, Warfare, Death of a Unicorn, I Love Boosters, and Union County.
