Roseanne Barr’s son has recently reignited a longstanding bitter feud. His comments came in right after an online comment from Michael Fishman.
Following Roseanne’s racist comments, ABC canceled the show ‘Roseanne’ back in 2018. Michael Fishman recently took to Instagram and claimed that the decision to cancel the show was justified. Fishman stated, “We are perpetuating a lie. And people are using a political smoke screen to justify the indefensible. Yeah, indefensible. That’s how she described it herself. But those justifications, they’re leading to real consequences, real crimes, situations like Trey Reed and Tasia Fortune… And the show was rightfully canceled.”
Immediately after Fishman’s statement, Barr’s son, Jake Pentland, stated that although there were harmful consequences, his mother, too, suffered. Pentland further accused the cast of plotting a conspiracy to remove Roseanne from the show, blaming them for taking the social media post out of context. Pentland told TMZ, “I wish him good luck in finding work one day. Hopefully selling the woman responsible for his career out was worth it for him.” Barr’s son also insisted that his mother was never allowed the chance to defend her stance.
What happened after ABC canceled Roseanne in 2018
Soon after the controversy brewed, ABC wasted no time and canceled the sitcom. Interestingly, while ‘Roseanne’ was canceled, ABC launched another show, ‘The Connors,’ immediately after. All the cast members from the previous show were part of the new product, except Roseanne Barr. Additionally, Barr also had to give up her creative and financial rights, allowing the spinoff show to proceed without any hindrance.
The entire fiasco started with a tweet from Barr in 2018. Barr compared the former adviser to the United States’ President, Barack Obama, and Valerie Jarrett to “muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.” With the post gaining significant negative traction, Barr apologized for her action and deleted the tweet. But that could not prevent her exit from the show.
As for Fishman, he remained a part of The Conners till 2022. Ultimately, the show finished its run three years later, in 2015.
