Damon Wayans is returning to television with a new guest role in an upcoming comedy series. He’ll appear in NBC’s St. Denis Medical Season 3, where the role reunites him with his former In Living Color castmate David Alan Grier.
NBC has revealed Wayans’ character and released a first look at his role. He’ll play Dr. Highland, a charming yet pompous new doctor at the hospital.
What else is Damon Wayans known for besides In Living Color?
Wayans became highly popular through In Living Color. The sketch comedy series was created by his brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans. He later led the ABC sitcom My Wife and Kids, which ran for five seasons.
His television work also includes Lethal Weapon, where he played Roger Murtaugh, along with New Girl. On the big screen, Wayans has appeared in movies like The Last Boy Scout, Major Payne and Blankman.
In St. Denis Medical, Dr. Highland arrives to fill in while Grier’s character, Ron, recovers from heart surgery. While the hospital staff and patients quickly warm to the charismatic new doctor, Alex (Allison Tolman) remains unaligned and unimpressed.
NBC officially renewed the workplace comedy for a third season in February 2026. According to the network, it was the only primetime broadcast comedy to show season-over-season linear growth among viewers aged 18-49. The show’s ratings in that demographic were up three percent for the season.
Season 3 will arrive on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 8/7c on NBC. Returning cast members include Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi.
There’s still no St. Denis Medical Season 3 trailer from NBC. The network also hasn’t shared a full storyline for the upcoming season. Instead, teasers and promotional clips are expected to premiere closer to the fall broadcast schedule.
