A popular face from MobLand has joined The Magnificent Seven TV show remake. The upcoming MGM+ Western series will also feature Matt Dillon, among others.
Who has joined the cast of The Magnificent Seven TV show?
Joanne Froggatt, best known for playing Jan Da Souza in MobLand, is set to join the cast of The Magnificent Seven Western TV show remake, reports Deadline. The actress has also earned acclaim for playing Anna Bates in Dowtown Abbey, with additional projects including Liar, Angela Black, The Bill, Coronation Street, Breathtaking, Sherwood, The Dark Angel, Robin Hood, The Harrowing, North Shore, and more.
She recently wrapped shooting her scenes as Jan Da Souza in MobLand, where she plays the wife of Tom Da Souza (played by Tom Hardy) in the Paramount+ TV series. It remains to be seen whether Froggatt will return for the third season.
In The Magnificent Seven TV remake, Froggatt will play the leader of the Quaker group under siege, the very group the cowboys are hired to defend.
The remake will be a new take on Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 classic Seven Samurai, which holds a perfect 100% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes. That film eventually inspired John Sturges’ 1960 movie The Magnificent Seven, featuring Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, and Charles Bronson in lead roles.
Heroes creator Tim Kring is overseeing the remake, which will be a reimagining of Sturges’ 1960 movie. The most recent film based on Kurosawa’s original 1954 movie was 2016’s The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, Chris Pratt, Haley Bennett, and Martin Sensmeier, among others.
As for the new project, it will also feature Will Patton and Michael Ealy in essential roles. The Magnificent Seven TV show remake is yet to receive an official release date window.
