A new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off TV series is in development at ABC. The network has ordered an untitled project set within the hit franchise.
What do we know about the new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off TV show?
ABC has confirmed a new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off TV show for its 2026-27 slate, according to Deadline. The series will be co-created by the original creator and executive producer, Shonda Rhimes, alongside Meg Marinis, who will also serve as the writer and executive producer.
The untitled medical drama will also feature Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo as an executive producer.
ABC’s new project will mark the fourth series in the Grey’s Anatomy franchise, following the main show and past spin-offs like Private Practice and Station 19. It will also be the first series set outside the West Coast or a major city. With limited details, the untitled series is said to be an edgy drama focusing on a team at a rural West Texas medical center.

Speaking about the brand new series, Marinis said, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe.” The co-creator added, “This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
Although it will feature a new group of doctors, the upcoming series will still have a connection with the original show, possibly via characters like Debbie Allen’s Catherine Fox. ABC’s longest-running prime-time scripted series, Grey’s Anatomy, saw its Season 22 conclude earlier this month with 5.99 million total viewers.
The new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off TV series will premiere in midseason of 2027.
