Eagles Stun NFL World By Release Of DeSean Jackson

According to reports, the move had nothing to do with his on field performance — which has been polarizing yet spectacular — and everything to do with his off-the-field activities.

ESPN:

The Eagles’ decision to cut ties with one of the most electrifying players in club history comes after the team uncovered information about Jackson’s off-the-field connections and activities, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. In addition, the source said, the Eagles decided to release Jackson rather than trade him to another team that might be unaware of the info.

“After careful consideration over this offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles have decided to part ways with DeSean Jackson. The team informed him of his release today,” the Eagles said in a statement.

Essentially, for some reason unbeknown to us, the Eagles are seemingly confident Jackson is tied to illegal gang activity.

Jackson posted this video to his Instagram early Friday around the same time news broke of his release as well as denying all allegations of being in a gang in a released statement.

“I would like to make it very clear that I am not and never have been part of any gang,” Jackson said in his statement. “I am not a gang member and to speculate and assume that I am involved in such activity off the field is reckless and irresponsible. I work very hard on and off the field and I am a good person with good values.”

“It is unfortunate that I now have to defend myself and my intentions,” his statement continues. “These reports are irresponsible and just not true.”

No one is concerned Jackson won’t get picked up by another team. Rumors are already swirling Oakland and Kansas City are interested, and a team like Seattle — who needs a receiver — has connections with the former Cal Bear. It still hasn’t stopped the NFL world from exploding.

Former NFL running back and fellow south-central LA product, Derrick Ward, vented on Twitter about the ordeal:

NBC Philadelphia made it clear Eagles fans are very upset about the move.

The only way the Eagles come out of this unscathed is if we later learn they know something we currently do not — which is most likely the case.
