Prince William reportedly broke royal protocol by traveling to Spain with his eldest son, Prince George. As reported by PEOPLE, William and George were spotted in the stands at Spotify Camp Nou in Barcelona. They attended the UEFA Champions League match between Aston Villa and FC Barcelona on November 3, 2026, to support their favorite team, Aston Villa. Later, a video emerged on X showing William and George traveling to Spain on a commercial flight.

This is not the first time members of the royal family have taken commercial flights for their trips. William previously took a commercial flight from New York to Washington, D.C., in 2014, ahead of his meeting with then-President Barack Obama. Kate Middleton has also reportedly taken a British Airways commercial flight from Rotterdam to London.

In a nutshell, it is not unusual for members of the royal family to travel on commercial flights. However, William and George’s recent trip reportedly went against traditional royal protocol. The reason is that the direct heirs to the throne are generally not supposed to travel together. This precaution is intended to safeguard the future of the monarchy in case a tragedy occurs.

William reportedly stopped traveling alongside his father, King Charles, after turning 12. Charles’ former pilot, Graham Laurie, reportedly shared on a podcast that once William turned 12, he had to travel on a separate aircraft. However, when it comes to William, he may not want to follow the same tradition and travel separately from his children.
