Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin join an Oscar-winning director’s new movie
Jeremy Renner and Josh Brolin are set to star in A Speck in the Sea, a survival thriller directed by Oscar winner Orlando von Einsiedel, Deadline reports.
The film, scripted by Oscar nominee Jeff Pope, is based on the true story of Montauk lobster fisherman Johnny Aldridge. Aldridge fell off his fishing boat into the Atlantic Ocean in the middle of the night in 2013.
Brolin will portray Aldridge, while Renner takes on the role of Anthony Sosinski, Aldridge’s fishing partner. Sosinski was asleep below deck when Aldridge went overboard. Upon discovering his friend missing, Sosinski launched a multi-state rescue operation.
193, a Legendary company, will handle international sales at AFM. Emmy nominee Mark Bauch is producing for One Day’s Walk alongside two-time BAFTA nominee Jonathan Eirich for Rideback. CAA Media Finance and WME Independent are co-repping North American rights.
“A Speck in the Sea brings together an exceptional cast and creative team to tell a wild true story of survival, friendship, and the human will to endure,” said 193 CEO Patrick Wachsberger. Bauch added that he knew von Einsiedel was the perfect filmmaker after reading Pope’s script. “Josh and Jeremy bring the grit, humanity and humor these roles demand,” Bauch said.
Eirich called the story one of the most remarkable true accounts of survival they have encountered. “We’re thrilled to partner with our longtime colleague Mark Bauch as well as Patrick and the 193 team to share this unforgettable story with audiences around the world,” Eirich said.
Von Einsiedel won an Academy Award for directing the short documentary The White Helmets. He also earned a Best Documentary Feature nomination for Virunga. Pope previously received an Oscar nomination for adapting Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan.
