Queen Camilla’s first meeting with Prince William reportedly left her so flustered that she instantly needed a gin and tonic. The claim comes from a royal biographer who detailed the seemingly awkward context of their first introduction.
In her biography “Queen Consort: The Life of Queen Camilla,” author Penny Junor revisited the meeting. She wrote that the Queen Consort had even offered to step out of the house to avoid causing William any discomfort.
King Charles reportedly brushed off her worries, calling them “ridiculous,” and went ahead with plans for her to meet his son after school. They scheduled the introduction for around 7 pm. But the royal heir showed up four hours ahead of time, giving her far less time to get ready than she had expected.
Rather than delaying the moment, Charles apparently urged them to face the unease head-on. However, after spending around 30 minutes with her future stepson, the former Duchess of Cornwall reportedly came out of the meeting and said, “I need a gin and tonic.”

A royal insider told the outlet, “Camilla knew perfectly well that meeting William was going to be one of the most emotionally difficult moments of her relationship with Charles. This wasn’t simply about being introduced to her partner’s son.”
