Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have kept out of the public eye this year, skipping Royal Ascot as public scrutiny of their parents, ex-Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, continues. Behind the scenes, however, the sisters are reportedly in a more uncertain position than their low profile suggests. A royal expert has now outlined where they stand.
Royal expert claims the York family controversy is taking an ‘unquestionable toll’ on the sisters
Speaking to the Express, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams explained that Sarah Ferguson and her daughters were long known as “the tripod” because of their closeness. “The Yorks were always a very close-knit family,” he said.
Things look different now. According to Fitzwilliams, the sisters are currently in “a form of limbo” as the scandal takes an unquestionable toll. The source also reports that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have reunited with their mother behind the scenes.
The expert added that Ferguson is back in Britain, living in the Home Counties. “There hasn’t been much publicity regarding this,” he said, noting that attention has mostly stayed on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to the UK. He also observed that Ferguson, 67, “hasn’t done anything yet, at least that we know of.”
Ferguson no longer holds the Duchess of York title, while Eugenie, 36, and Beatrice, 38, retain their princess titles but are not working royals. The sisters did not attend Royal Ascot this year amid renewed scrutiny of their parents’ historical connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Reports suggest they are trying to maintain their ties to the Royal Family while navigating the controversy. Other reports indicate that their mother has sought support from them privately.
There has also been talk of a memoir. It has been reported that Ferguson was “days away” from signing a book deal. However, her spokesperson later told People that there had been “no discussions” about a deal and that she was not writing a personal memoir. Meanwhile, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office and released under investigation. Both he and Ferguson have denied wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.
Despite the external controversies, family life continues for both princesses. Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, split their time between London and the Cotswolds with their family, while Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, divide their schedule between Britain and Portugal with their two young sons, keeping their personal lives largely detached from the ongoing royal headlines.
