Evil Dead Star Wants To Call Sam Raimi Amid Franchise Return Chatter

Fans of the Evil Dead franchise have long wondered whether any survivor from the 2013 reboot might resurface. That speculation hit a new peak this week when one alumna floated the idea of pitching the series’ original director on a comeback.

Jane Levy tests fan enthusiasm for Mia Allen’s possible return

Jane Levy turned a Q&A into a franchise talking point. Speaking after a screening of the 2013 Evil Dead reboot, the actor asked the room an unexpected question. “I have a question. Do you guys think Mia should come back to Evil Dead?” she said, drawing applause. “OK cool, I was just checking. That’s all.” She then joked about reaching out to the franchise’s original architect: “Let’s call Sam’s Skype number right now and see if he wants Mia to come back.”

The moment lands amid persistent rumors that Mia could appear in Evil Dead Wrath, the 2028 prequel, or another pop-up in the Sam Raimi-founded series. Levy’s Mia survived the 2013 film’s carnage, yet the franchise never built a sequel around her. Instead, each new IP has introduced new characters in 2023, then with Burn this year, and Evil Dead Wrath next.

Raimi’s original trilogy, comprising The Evil Dead (1981), Evil Dead II (1987), and Army of Darkness (1993), made Bruce Campbell’s Ash the face of the brand. Campbell has since closed that door, telling the Detroit Free Press he is finished with the role after his cancer diagnosis and noting the series has “moved away from Sam Raimi” and “moved away from Ash and Bruce Campbell” (via CBR).

That leaves room for someone new to carry the torch or for Mia to reclaim it. Producer Robert Tapert has called Evil Dead Wrath, set in 1972, “another great departure” for the franchise. Levy’s tease doesn’t confirm anything, but it keeps her name tied to the series and gives fans a reason to watch for news about Sam Raimi’s next move.
