Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent Nottingham event reportedly resembled a royal event. For those unversed, the Sussexes made their first joint appearance in the UK on October 15, where they met locals and volunteers from several charitable organizations in the UK. Despite not being an official royal event, it had all the signature elements of an official royal event.
Insider says security shaped the royal-style format of the Nottingham visit
An insider dished to Alison Boshoff, an editor attached to the Daily Mail, that the Sussexes’ Nottingham event was a success because people missed the old Harry they loved. “This was a successful event with no narrative other than supporting the organizations,” the friend added.
Interestingly, Nottingham holds a special place in Harry and Meghan’s hearts because it was the site of their first royal walkabout following their engagement in 2017. Furthermore, the friend explained why the event evoked the feeling of a royal event. The friend dished: “For security reasons, it had the shape of a royal event, but that is because, ultimately, that is who they are.”
The Duke of Sussex’s friend explained how the prince was genuinely touched by the warm welcome he received and intended to carry out more such engagements. The friend shared how the Nottingham experience felt like a royal event, even if it wasn’t, as the Sussexes stepped down as working royals in 2020. Moreover, the friend shared that Harry and Meghan are now focused on interacting with the general public and rebuilding trust instead of taking jabs at the royal family.
“This sort of work is what makes Harry happy; it is in his DNA. It has nothing to do with relations with the Royal Family,” the friend chimed in. Interestingly, King Charles previously issued a letter via Lord Chamberlain asserting that the Sussexes would remain non-working royals.
Additionally, the letter clarified that Harry and Meghan cannot use royal titles or carry out royal engagements. In response, the Sussexes’ spokesperson stated they “were a little surprised not to have been told about this in advance” (via BBC).
