Kylie Jenner made her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show debut on Oct. 18 with a surprise appearance in the $50 million Fantasy Bra. Boyfriend Timothée Chalamet and mom Kris Jenner cheered her on from the audience at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, Calif. The 29-year-old became the first non-Angel to wear the iconic piece.
The Fantasy Bra returned to the runway after an eight-year absence. Jacob & Co. crafted the bra using 4,410 natural diamonds and 3,218 individually designed components. A 75.54-carat yellow diamond worth $22 million sat at the bra’s center, making it the most valuable Fantasy Bra ever.
Victoria’s Secret chief creative officer Adam Selman explained the choice in a Vogue interview. “Kylie really extends beyond fashion, beyond culture, beyond TV, beyond one singular thing,” Selman said. He added that the brand does the same thing. “She’s really created her own culture, which — how many people can say that?” Selman continued.
Selman described the show’s big idea as “fandomonium.” He called the pairing of Jenner with the Fantasy Bra “fun” and “joyful.” He also noted it would celebrate the moment in a way people would not expect.
Designer Jacob Arabo detailed the bra’s construction challenges in the same Vogue interview. “Remember, this bra is made entirely of gold and diamonds — there is no fabric,” Arabo said. He noted that 15 craftspeople spent more than 1,000 hours building the piece. “Every curve, every diamond, and every piece of gold had to be carefully placed,” Arabo added. Jenner walked to Jade Thirlwall’s “Angel of my Dreams” wearing white angel wings alongside the bra. She later called it the “best day ever” on her Instagram Story.
