Gavin Newsom Has 2-Word Reaction to Ex-Wife Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Exit

Gavin Newsom offered a brief two-word response to his ex-wife Kimberly Guilfoyle’s departure from her diplomatic post, keeping his comments measured as allegations against her drew attention.

Newsom kept his response brief when reporters raised the controversy surrounding Guilfoyle during his Saturday campaign stop in New Hampshire, where he was supporting Democratic candidates.

Asked about Guilfoyle’s departure as U.S. ambassador to Greece following misconduct allegations, the California governor offered a short reaction, saying, “It’s unfortunate.” Speaking to CBS News, Newsom said he had not spoken with Guilfoyle recently and expressed hope that things would go well for her. He declined to elaborate.

Guilfoyle’s exit came after The Wall Street Journal published reports alleging misconduct and the improper use of funds. The Donald Trump administration later asked her to resign from her diplomatic post in Greece, and she submitted her resignation letter on October 13. Guilfoyle has rejected the accusations.

She also addressed the allegations directly on X, vowing to “vigorously defend” her reputation, character, and integrity. In her response, Guilfoyle highlighted her years of professional service and argued that accusations she considers false should not overshadow her decades in public life. “I have dedicated my professional life to fighting for justice, standing up for what is right, and defending the values that make America exceptional,” she wrote.

Trump said Guilfoyle had been “doing a good job” but acknowledged that officials “didn’t like what we were reading” about her, adding that she “wasn’t a member of my family” when asked about her former engagement to Donald Trump Jr. (via HuffPost).

Long before Guilfoyle became associated with the Trump family, she and Newsom shared a personal chapter of their own. Their paths crossed at a Democratic fundraising event in San Francisco in 1994, and romance followed a year later. The couple wed in 2001 but went their separate ways through divorce five years later.
