President Donald Trump rallied supporters in Bullhead City, Arizona, on Wednesday, warning that Democrats would “destroy our country” while campaigning for Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections, Fox News reported.
Trump took the stage to boost Rep. Andy Biggs, the GOP gubernatorial nominee seeking to unseat Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs. Biggs joined Trump onstage and pointed to the president’s February State of the Union address. He accused Democrats of refusing to stand when Trump challenged lawmakers about their commitment to Americans. “Vote Republican top to bottom,” Biggs told the crowd. “Let’s turn Arizona red.”
Trump seized on the criticism and shifted to lawmakers’ reactions during the speech. He recalled honoring veterans, including Medal of Honor recipient retired Navy Capt. E. Royce Williams. “Not one Democrat smiled or clapped,” Trump said. “And that’s when I looked at them, and I said, ‘You people are crazy.’” He added, “But that’s what we have. They’ll destroy our country.”
Trump’s account combined separate moments from the Feb. 24 address. He also recognized World War II veteran George “Buddy” Taggart during the speech. The partisan confrontation arose when Trump asked lawmakers to affirm that protecting American citizens was the government’s first duty. Republicans stood while many Democrats remained seated. Democratic Sen. John Fetterman separately said he stood to recognize honored guests.
Trump also directed repeated personal attacks at Hobbs, calling her a “low IQ individual.” He praised Biggs’ running mate, former state Sen. Sine Kerr, who is seeking to become Arizona’s first lieutenant governor. Trump urged voters to elect secretary of state candidate Alex Kolodin, calling him “a warrior for election integrity.” The rally featured a tribute to the late conservative activist Charlie Kirk. “In Charlie’s honor, we want you to go out and vote,” Trump said.
