Donald Trump has sparked reactions after making unexpected comments about WNBA star Sophie Cunningham during a recent rally in Ohio. While addressing the crowd, the president praised the Indiana Fever guard’s appearance and suggested she could attract more spectators to a basketball team. His remarks have since prompted criticism from fans on social media.
Donald Trump calls Sophie Cunningham ‘beautiful’
Donald Trump praised WNBA player Sophie Cunningham’s appearance during a rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on October 12. The President’s comments came while discussing the Indiana Fever guard at the Covelli Centre, where he addressed supporters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Trump began by expressing his fondness for Cunningham before commenting on her looks. “We like Sophie Cunningham. I like Sophie. Yeah, you’d have a lot of men wanting to go and watch her. She’s beautiful. You’re not allowed to say that anymore, however,” he said.
He then acknowledged the potential political consequences of such remarks, adding, “As a politician, please, please, let me take it back. Any time a politician says a woman is beautiful, that’s generally the end of his political career in the modern day politic world.”
Trump continued his remarks by describing Cunningham as “a beautiful young woman.” The President added, You probably wouldn’t find her on the team, not to help you with points, but to help you with attendance. Attendance would be great.”
The comments prompted reactions from fans on social media, with several expressing discomfort. One user wrote, “Totally not creepy at all to say.” Another added, “What woman in her right mind would work with this creep of a man.”
A third user wrote, “He’s such a nasty old pervert. Nobody talks like this anymore. Demented grandpa needs to be put in a home.” Meanwhile, a fourth comment read, “Sophie Cunningham, regardless of her political views, should be disgusted that the president said her only value to her team is her looks and not her ability on the court.”
