Meanwhile, arrangements were reportedly being explored for a private telephone or video conversation. Their wives and children would not participate. That would mark a significant shift after years of estrangement.
Additionally, the same source said, “They’re being laughed at.” They framed the standoff as especially damaging because of William’s future role. “This is the future King and his brother,” the insider said. “Not two schoolboys refusing to sit together at lunch.” Then came the blunt conclusion: “Somebody has to grow up.” The royal drama also became material for television comedy. “SNL UK” mocked the brothers’ ongoing tensions during its October 10 cold open.
